Just minutes from the bustle of Liverpool City Centre, the Wirral peninsula offers visitors a complete change of pace.
 
Famous for being the birthplace of Malcolm Lowry, Ian Botham, Glenda Jackson, John Peel, Elvis Costello and Paul O’Grady – to name just a few - it’s also home to an equally diverse number of attractions and beautiful scenery.
 
We’re delighted that many of the sponsors who have brought Go Penguins across the Mersey represent some of the jewels of this quaint and delightful part of Merseyside – be it its historic parks and gardens to wondrous art galleries.
 
The Wirral is also fabulously easy to reach by bus, train, car or even a world famous ferry.
 

St Helens

It’s fantastic that St.Helens is to house its own Go Penguins colony.
 
This Merseyside borough, famous for its fascinating heritage and world class sport, has a unique identity which our penguin artists have vividly brought to life – hopefully making you smile and think in equal measure. Just a short train journey or drive from Liverpool, the trail of this colony will guide you through superb scenery and some genuine jewels from Haydock Racecourse to the multi-award winning attraction - The World of Glass.

St Helen’s Rugby League plays a pivotal role in everyday life, as you will discover, but art too is beginning to dominate the landscape – quite literally!
 
So while you’re out penguin spotting, why not take a quick trip to Sutton Manor to view Britain’s biggest public sculpture of the decade - ‘Dream’, by Jaume Plensa. As we say, big things happen in the North West.
